Another week, another step forward

So we end another week at Talbot Road Dental Practice. This week we have started carrying out our first Aerosol Generating Procedures wearing our new enhanced PPE. Thank you again for your patience whilst we adapt to our new safety procedures and the logistics involved in changing our clinical diaries. Our dentists are working hard to catch up on the backlog but this will take us some time. Please bear with us as we continue in our efforts to return to our 'new normal'. For now, we have hung up our PPE for the weekend!! Thank you to our team for working so hard to maintain our safety standards and keep the Practice running smoothly. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend. TRDP.

Thank you

We are aware that this is an extremely difficult time for our patients who may have had dental treatment deferred as a result of the current restrictions to dental services during the Covid-19 pandemic. We thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding. Once again, we are missing our patients and the normal routine. We are available for telephone advice and emergency care. In the meantime we are following the guidance from our Chief Dental Officer and preparing the Practice to be as safe an environment as possible for our patients and our team.

Why dental teams can't provide routine dentistry at present.

We hope to answer some of your questions. Whenever we use dental drills or our water spray, an aerosol is created (see photo on our Facebook Page or Instagram account). Coronavirus can live in that aerosol for some time. We don't know how long, but it may be a few hours.

If an asymptomatic patient had a filling, the aerosol from the procedure would contaminate the air. Anyone who enters the surgery, members of our team, other patients, would be at risk of contracting the virus. Continuing these procedures risks the safety of our patients and our team. The Chief Dental Officer has advised against any procedure that can generate aerosols. This coupled with the Welsh Government advice on social distancing and to limit non essential travel means that we must postpone appointments.

We are still here on the telephone with a dentist available every day for advice. We can provide emergency treatment if necessary. We miss our patients and doing what we do best.

Stay safe and follow our posts for the latest developments.
