SERVICES / TREATMENTS / FACILITIES

Please detail each treatment you intend providing with the age range and any specialist equipment used

We provide general dental services to the whole population. Our dental practice is in an area of high dental need. Children up to the age of 18 years of age are seen on the NHS. For adults, we offer Denplan Care. Independent fees and Denplan monthly fees are on display in our reception area.

All general dental services are provided as well as tooth whitening. This includes the diagnosis and treatment of dental disease including caries and periodontal disease. We have 3 fully equipped dental surgeries.

Each surgery also has a wall mounted intra-oral x-ray unit. We take radiographs as an aid to diagnosing the patient’s oral condition. The surgery also has a stand alone rotary/reciprocating endodontic motor, which can be used in any of the 3 surgeries.

In relation to the area of wider health, we also undertake soft tissue screening for the early detections of oral cancers. Should any patients require any treatment that requires specialist input or treatment that we cannot offer we can, with the patient's consent, refer these patients to other clinicians.

Instruments are manually cleaned in conjunction with an ultrasonic bath prior to being sterilised in one of two autoclaves, following guidelines issued in WHTM 01-05. There are a sufficient number of reusable instruments available to allow the smooth running of our services, taking into account the period of time necessary to decontaminate these instruments after use.

One of our surgeries is on the ground floor, two are upstairs. Should any patient  be unable to climb the stairs to see their clinician we are able to arrange for that patient to be seen in the downstairs surgery by their clinician.

PATIENTS VIEWS

How do you seek patient’s views on the services / treatments you provide?

We regularly run in-house patient questionnaires. We always have feedback forms available in our waiting rooms. We also keep a “grumble/ compliments” book at reception. Team members are encouraged to record our patients comments in this book. We always discuss these comments at our monthly practice meetings.

We find out what patients:

·         like about the practice

·         what they feel could be improved and

·         what it is really like to receive dental care at the practice

Our questionnaires are designed to be as short and as simple as possible and we avoid jargon. We have also used the Wales Deanery Patient Experience Questionnaire.

After these consultations, we let the patients know what we have found out and what we intend to do as a result.

We put this feedback - and our associated actions - in practice newsletters, on our social media and it is also posted on notices at the practice.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR VISITING / OPENING HOURS

What are the opening hours of the establishment?

What are the arrangements for patients who require urgent care or treatment out of hours?

If you provide in patient care what are the arrangements for contact between patients and their relatives i.e. visiting times

Monday- Thursday 9am-1pm  2pm – 5pm

Friday 9am – 4pm

Reception services are available Mon-Thur 1-2pm

Our experienced reception team aim to provide urgent care appointments on the day, or at least the next working day. We run our appointment book so that emergency appointments are available every day.

Out of hours, a recorded answerphone message advises patients of our practice opening times, how they may access dental advice, and if appropriate emergency treatment. These details are also posted in the window of the practice.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR DEALING WITH COMPLAINTS

At Talbot Road Dental Practice, we are committed to affording our patients the same privacy, dignity, respect and compassion that we would want for ourselves, our family and friends. All patients are welcomed and treated equally. We live and work in an increasingly diverse society (around gender, race and ethnicity, disability, religion, sexuality, class and age) and we try to respond appropriately and sensitively to this diversity.

Our practice is committed to providing services to all patients within the constraints of the building. We have carried out a disabled access audit. We have a portable ramp from the path to the front door to allow easy access into the practice; ensured that the ground floor waiting room has an uncluttered open passage to the ground floor surgery with a widened doorway, providing easy access for those with walking difficulties or in wheelchairs etc We also have a ground floor disabled access toilet. Clinicians “swap” surgeries so that patients can continue to see the dentist of their choice if they are unable to climb the stairs.

Information for patients available at the practice is printed in English and Welsh, to date, this has met the needs of our patients. We will source information in different languages, if required.

We avoid the use of dental jargon and keep explanations clear and simple. We assess the level of detail that each patient needs to help them make informed decisions about their care.

Where there are language difficulties, we encourage patients to be accompanied by a friend or relative who can interpret our explanations and the patients’ questions.

Where a patient has learning difficulties, we encourage them to be accompanied by a spouse or carer who is experienced in communicating with them and can help us to make sure that the patient understands what is happening.
